Roofing Services — Northern Suburbs Melbourne
Restoration, re-roofing, repairs, painting, gutters, roof plumbing and inspections — every roofing service Melbourne's northern suburbs homes need, from one local team.
Roofing specified for Melbourne's north — not a generic checklist
Melbourne's northern suburbs ask specific things of a roof. Winter freeze-thaw cycles crack old rigid cement ridge pointing — the correct fix is flexible polymer repointing, not re-cementing the same material on the same cycle. Spring hail events (particularly severe in the outer northern corridor) crack terracotta and concrete tile but only dent Colorbond. The mature deciduous canopy of the inner north — elm, plane tree, liquidambar — fills gutters in weeks rather than months and drives overflow damage into fascia boards. And Eltham's CFA Very High Bushfire Risk Zone requires ember-rated gutter and valley guard products.
Getting the specification wrong — the wrong mortar, the wrong coating, the wrong call on restore vs replace — means the same job again in two or three winters. We know the housing eras and the conditions district by district, and we specify accordingly.
Not sure which service your roof needs?
Start with a free inspection — we get on the roof, photograph what's actually there, and give you a straight verdict. As a rough guide:
- Tired-looking roof, tiles still sound → roof restoration
- Leaks, cracked tiles or storm/hail damage → roof repairs
- Porous, hail-shattered or end-of-life roof → replacement or tile-to-Colorbond
- Faded colour, surface still intact → roof painting & coating
- Overflowing or leaf-blocked gutters → gutters & downpipes

Roof Restoration
A properly restored roof outlasts anything a repaint or quick-clean patch job can offer. We strip back years of moss, lichen and failed mortar, replace what needs replacing, and lay down a full professional coating system — giving your existing tile or metal roof a second decade of reliable weatherproofing. For the ageing terracotta and concrete tile homes of Preston, Coburg, Reservoir and the inner north, it's almost always the smartest financial call.

Roof Repairs
A cracked tile or a few centimetres of crumbling ridge mortar might look minor, but left alone they're the beginning of a leak — and once water gets through the tile plane, the damage accelerates fast. We diagnose and fix roof problems properly: the right repair at the right time, with an honest assessment of whether a targeted repair is sufficient or whether the bigger picture needs addressing.

Learn more →Restore, repair or replace? How we make the call
The honest answer depends on what's under the grime — which is why every quote starts with us on the roof, not at the letterbox. This is the framework we use:
| 🧽 Restoration | 🔧 Repairs | 🏠 Replacement | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Right when | Roof looks tired but the tiles or sheets are structurally sound | Damage is localised — a leak, cracked tiles, failed ridge mortar | Tiles are porous or hail-shattered, or metal is rusted through |
| Typical scope | Full clean, broken-tile swap, re-bed & repoint, primer + two-coat membrane | Targeted fix of the failed element, matched to the existing roof | Strip to battens, new sarking, new tile or Colorbond roof |
| You get | 10–15 more years from the roof you already own* | The leak stopped now — and an honest read on what's next | A new roof with decades of life and current insulation standards |
| Relative cost | $$ — a fraction of replacement | $ — the cheapest time to fix a roof problem is early | $$$ — the right call when restoration would be money wasted |
*With sound substrate and our coating system maintained per warranty conditions. Every job is priced as a fixed written quote after inspection — no estimate-by-phone guesswork.
Tile, metal or heritage — we work on all of it
The northern suburbs' housing stock spans a century of roofing materials, and each one fails — and gets fixed — differently.

Terracotta & concrete tile
The default roof of Preston, Reservoir and Coburg's post-war streets. Concrete tiles go porous with age and terracotta sheds its glaze — but the structure underneath usually has decades left. Restoration (clean, repoint, membrane coat) is the workhorse fix; we replace only what's actually broken.

Colorbond & metal
Corrugated and standing-seam metal shrugs off hail but surrenders to rust — around fasteners, laps and anywhere the coating has broken down. Caught early, a rusted roof is restorable: rust conversion, epoxy primer, then a full membrane system. Left too long, it's a re-sheet. We do both, and tell you which yours is.

Heritage & steep-pitch
Victorian and Edwardian rooflines in Brunswick, Northcote and the inner north demand period-correct materials, council-sensitive workmanship and real access equipment — steep pitches are scaffold jobs, not ladder jobs. We preserve original slate and decorated terracotta rather than painting over the problem.

Choosing a roofing service — common questions
The questions we get before a job is even scoped. For service-specific detail, each service page has its own FAQs — or see the full FAQ page.
Do you handle both tile and metal roofs?
Yes — terracotta and concrete tile, Colorbond and older corrugated metal, plus slate and decorated terracotta on heritage homes. They fail differently (tiles go porous and shed pointing; metal rusts at fasteners and laps), so the repair and restoration methods differ too, but it's the same local team across all of them.
Can one company handle the whole job — roof, gutters, flashings and plumbing?
Yes. We do the full roofline as one scope: the roof surface itself, ridge capping, valleys and flashings, gutters, downpipes and fascia. One quote, one crew, one point of responsibility — no gap between 'the roofer' and 'the gutter guy' for a leak to fall into.
Can you tell me which service my roof needs over the phone?
Honestly, no — and be wary of anyone who quotes a roof sight-unseen. A tired-looking roof can be structurally sound (restoration) or porous and brittle (replacement), and the difference isn't visible from the ground. We get on the roof, photograph what's actually there, and give you a straight verdict with a fixed written quote. The inspection and quote are free.
Do you take on commercial and industrial roofs?
Yes. Alongside residential work we restore commercial metal roofs, including large-format jobs using epoxy primers and full Dulux AcraTex membrane systems. If your building has a rusting or leaking metal roof, restoration is usually far cheaper and less disruptive than re-sheeting.
My roof has a few different problems — do I need separate quotes?
No — one inspection covers everything we find. If your roof needs ridge repointing, a valley replacement and new gutters, that comes back as a single itemised quote, so you can see what each element costs and decide what to do now versus later.
